Clusters of rose-pink flowers appear in Spring, borne on 15cm tall stems above rosettes of glossy dark green leaves.
It hails from Northern Europe where it grows in meadows and rocky places so a sunny, well-drained spot in the garden is ideal.
Interesting fact... Lychnis alpina is very tolerant of nickel and copper in the soil and so has been used by prospectors of these metals to identify possible excavation sites.
