Popularly known as 'Everyman's Gentian' on account of it being one of the easiest gentians to grow, this European specie has clusters of blue bell-shaped flowers in late Summer above spreading tufts of glossy evergreen leaves, ht 10-15cm. Growing wild in the alpine meadows of Turkey and Iran, it prefers a moist but well-drained soil in sun or light shade.
